This tool cuts the radius, or cove, on the hammer molding. It works equally well on unprepared hammers or ones that already have a factory cove. Re-coving is often desirable especially when considering weight reduction of the hammer head. It requires a drill press and cross-vice for use, and a 1 3/8” Forstner boring bit. Once the fixture is indexed to the drill spindle, you can adjust the size of the cove fore and aft, and left to right, ensuring that the cove is the proper depth and properly spaced between the tail and bore hole.
